The Maxwell School

The Maxwell School sits on a high point of the Syracuse University campus, just off the main Quad. Its spacious L-shaped structure is home to all that is Maxwell: the professional programs in public administration and international relations, the executive education program, all seven social science departments, six research centers and institutes. All Maxwell faculty - 135 in all - have offices in the complex. It's two buildings - Eggers Hall, built in 1994, and Maxwell Hall, substantially renovated at the time - are linked by a three-tiered atrium and form the Maxwell Complex.

PROGRAM ORIENTATION

The Maxwell portion of your program will begin on October 1 with an orientation that will focus primarily on the logistics of your stay (much of what this webpage covers as well). You will receive your student identification card (SUID) and have a chance to tour the Maxwell School complex and also the library and meet a number of people who should help make your stay more enjoyable. On October 2, the orientation will be more academic in nature and introduce you to public administration and policy analysis in the Maxwell School along with more details about the course.

SU ID

As visitors to the University you will enjoy many of the same facilities as students do such as the Bird Library and Recreation Services. At the program orientation you will receive a Syracuse University special guest Identification Card. You should carry this card with you at all times throughout your stay in Syracuse as it is used to access the Maxwell/Eggers complex after University hours (you have 24 hr - 7 day a week access with this card). The card also provides you access to the library as well as the gym facilities. Additionally the card identifies you as a member of the University community and with it certain privileges will be granted on and around the campus.

COMPUTERS and PRINTERS

The first day of orientation will include a session by our Technology department. You will be given your Maxwell Computer account information that will give you 24 hour/7 days a week access to the Executive Education computer lab located in 204A Maxwell Hall for internet research, writing and printing. This lab is shared with Executive Education graduate students. Also if any of you have brought laptop computers with you, discussion about how to configure those to use Maxwell's wireless environment will take place. Additional computers that you may use around campus, or can rent while in Syracuse can be found in the program handbook (given to you upon arrival).

MAILBOX

Each participant will have a mailbox in the graduate study area (204 Maxwell) across from the Executive Education office. The participants, staff and faculty involved in this course will use these mailboxes to distribute program information. Additionally any incoming faxes and telephone messages will be placed there as well.

COPYING

Each participant is given a quota of 200 pages of copies. The copier located in the graduate study area (204 Maxwell) across from the Executive Education office. You can access your copier account with your personal code, which is the last four digits of your SU ID. Once you use up your quota, your access to the copier will expire. NOTE: It is illegal to copy entire books. However, articles or chapter of a book are allowed to be copied, as long as it is for study or research purpose.

TELEPHONE and FAX

We have a designated phone to accommodate Executive Education students in the graduate study area (204 Maxwell). You will need a phone card to place long distance calls. It is NOT APPROPRIATE to receive calls at this telephone however. Because of it's location it could be a disruption to meetings or other programs that are regularly held in the study area. If a message needs to reach you while at Maxwell, it can be taken at (315) 443-3759. Our receptionist will be happy to take the call and leave a message for you in your mailbox. It is NOT APPROPRIATE for our receptionist to leave her desk to find you for you to take the call.

A fax machine, (315) 443 5330, is located in the Executive Education suite of offices (219 Maxwell Hall). All incoming faxes should be addressed in your name and reference the IIMB/Maxwell program. We will place your fax in your mailbox. If you need to send a fax, please see our receptionist or Ronda Garlow for assistance.
