Visa Process

Step 1:  Ronda Garlow of Executive Education Programs at Syracuse University will contact you by email, sending two documents. The first will be a scanned copy of Syracuse University's official letter of invitation/confirmation. The second document will be the International Scholar Info Sheet (ISIS).

Step 2:  You will complete the ISIS, scan and email it to Ronda Garlow along with a scanned image of your passport. NOTE: It is imperative that your ISIS form has your name listed as it appears on your passport.

Step 3: Ronda Garlow will submit your ISIS and passport image to Syracuse University’s Slutzker Center for International Services (SCIS) where they will process and issue the DS-2019.

Step 4:  Once the DS 2019 is prepared, the SCIS office will turn it over to Ronda Garlow.

Step 5:  Ronda Garlow will apply and pay the required Student and Exchange Visitor Program: SEVIS I-901 fee (SEVIS fee)

Step 6:  Ronda Garlow will send the following documents to you by express mail service: 1) The original Syracuse University invitation/confirmation letter (that was sent as an attachment in Ronda's first email to you), 2) a cover letter from the SCIS office, 3) your DS2019 and proof of the paid SEVIS fee.  Ronda will email you when the documents leave the University and provide a shipping tracking number for you to monitor. Ronda may contact you to discuss the mailing address provided by you on the ISIS to be sure the documents can reach you in a timely manner.

Step 7: You will confirm by email to Ronda Garlow when you have received the documents and you will bring all documentation to an U.S. Embassy in your home country as soon as possible to apply for entry to the United States with a J-1 Visa.  NOTE: You should take a moment to visit the SCIS's website to familiarize you with the terms of a J-1 visa before moving forward - http://international.syr.edu/J-1_Status.html .

Step 9: You will apply for your visa as soon as possible. NOTE: Currently there is no way that Syracuse University can pay for your visa fee in advance. Please be prepared to pay the fee and submit the receipt to the University for reimbursement. Ronda will assist you with this process.

Step 10: You will confirm by email to Ronda Garlow when you have received your visa as well as send her a scanned image of your visa.
