As you begin to plan for your travel, please be advised of the following:
1) The grant requires that you fly on an American carrier wherever possible.
2) The program budget will cover one round-trip, economy class airline ticket arriving in Syracuse New York and departing from Washington, DC. It becomes extremely complicated to accommodate any other travel itineraries, however we would accommodate a departure from a city other then Washington DC if you prefer. If you wish to upgrade your class of service however you may at your expense. I will assist you with all aspects of obtaining your airline ticket.
3) the program will require you to arrive in Syracuse on 14 March, the program begins with an orientation on March 15th
4) the program ends on 12 June , return tickets will be 13 or 14 June depending on availability and pricing
5) electronic airline tickets will be issued wherever possible
6) some flight itineraries will require you to stop over in another country; it may be necessary for you to apply for another type of visa, possibly a “transit visa”. NOTE: If your flight itinerary has a stopover in another country, you will need to verify with that country’s consulate whether you need any additional documentation, besides your passport and J1 visa for the US, in order to stop over.
There are several Fellows who will be traveling on the same flights, either out of their originating city, through a connecting city, or into Syracuse. Before 13 March we will finalize the travel for 6 Fellows, giving us the flight schedules for all 21 Fellows. At that time we will share the travel itineraries of everyone so if you are interested, you can communicate and coordinate with your travel buddy(s).
