Individual Assignments

Each participant is required to turn in three individual assignments in addition to the Capstone paper and presentation.  These assignments will be evaluated and turned over to the Department of Personnel and Training.  The requirements for each paper are outlined below: 

1. Best Experience Paper - (individual assignment) - Due date: Thursday, April 24th

Present about 2-3 "best experiences" from your service, which demonstrate your creativity and innovativeness in handling significant issues of governance. Each experience could be presented in the form of a 1-page note. You may refer to a few guidelines suggested hereunder to aid in the making of the note.

A short paragraph each on:
Background facts in brief
Your analysis of the situation/context and identification of the problem
Different policy responses considered and a brief explanation for the strategy adopted
Action taken and the results achieved
Key experiential lessons

*The Best Experience Paper must be submitted via email by Thursday, April 24th to ias.phase.iv@gmail.com.

2. Korea Paper - (individual assignment) - Due date:  Saturday, June 7th

This paper should focus on one specific aspect of the Korea Exposure Visit that positively or negatively impressed you.  Explain the nature of the policy and why you reached that decision.  If positively impressed, explain how India might replicate the policy; if negatively impressed, explain how Korea might have structured the policy differently.  This paper cannot be longer than five pages and is to be written in an informal, journalistic style.

*The Korea Paper must be submitted via email by Saturday, June 7th to ias.phase.iv@gmail.com.

3. Learning Paper – name of assignment? (Individual assignment) - Due date:  Thursday, June 12th

The goal is to apply techniques and concepts learned in Phase IV to their own experience.

1. Review the essay you wrote at the beginning of the program.  Pick either your leadership success or challenge. 
a. Assess the policy directive driving the program using the analytical tools discussed in weeks one and two.
b. Assess your implementation strategy using the concepts discussed in weeks 3 and 4.  What other possibilities for implementation were available that you could consider for the future?
c. Assess your leadership approach based on the concepts covered in weeks 7 and 8.  How might you incorporate new ideas in the future?
